WHY COLLECT AUCTION CATALOGS?
Auction catalogs are valuable - and affordable - reference tools for collectors. They give us the expertise of the world's leading specialists; they can show up to hundreds of items, often with spectacular photos; they can give a general overview or a very detailed look at different areas of collecting (and sometimes of collectors as well).
Most catalogs have estimates of what the item was expected to bring at auction printed along with the item description; many of them also have the final sale results.
For those areas of collecting which aren't too well-documented, or where the reference books can cost almost as much as one of the items being collected, auction catalogs are especially valuable; for any area of collecting, well-documented or not, they're always helpful identification aids.

NEW YORK

MASTERPIECES

OF

MODERN LITERATURE

THE LIBRARY OF ROGER RECHLER

OCTOBER 11, 2002

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Roger Rechler, a Long Island real estate developer, assembled this remarkable collection of over 350 works of literature, virtually all of which are important association copies inscribed by the authors to loved ones or important people in their lives. The Roger Rechler Library represents a unique collection of 20th century literature the likes of which has never been seen in the market - a gathering of books that offers a comprehensive overview of the masterpieces of modern literature. What's more, all of these books grant a glimpse into the author’s personal life, bearing significant inscriptions that add to our understanding of the writers and their influences.
Individual world auction records were set for the most important authors of the 20th century, including records for any book by Joyce, Nabokov, Kerouac, Fitzgerald, Baum, and Tolkien. In addition, the world auction record was set for any work of 20th century fiction (Ulysses).
This is a new copy of the 450-page, 3.5-pound catalog.
